The 3 types of Animal Hoarders

The Rescuer: They think they can save them all. This type of hoarder tends to think that he/she is the only person to save these animals. Mentally they have no intentions of harming the animal(s). However, they are far from being rescuer or saviors to these animals in fact it’s quite the opposite. This act is more of a negligence situation then intentional.

The Exploiter: They are the most difficult to treat and explore due to their lack of empathy, remorse, and guilt to the harm of the animal victim. The average exploiter hoarder is cunning and manipulative; furthermore, they tend to demand the environment entirely controlled by them. They have what many call a sociopathic ways and mind set, so they also tend to be the most antisocial with their lifestyles. This is the most complex type of hoarder.

The Overwhelmed Caregiver: They’re the famous for the emotional attachment they bond with every animal in their possession. He/she often think of their mass amount of pets as family. The disabled percentage of animals hoarders usually fall into this category, causing isolation. Their self-esteem play a major role in their ownership and involvement with their animals.

What is animal hoarding?

Animal Hoarding is a form of animal cruelty in which a person (hoarder) keeps abnormally large numbers of animal for whom they do not provide even the most basic care such food, water, and shelter. Animal Hoarding is one of the most common forms of animal cruelty considering the average amount of animal victims per hoarder. The most common animal victims are cats followed by the collection of dogs. Animal hoarders have a 100% chance of being repeat offenders if given the right to own animals again. Animal hoarders are often called “animal addicts”, and about 72% of animal hoarders are female.
